Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy administers a therapeutic dose of radiation to a localized area, destroying cancer cells’ ability to grow and divide. Radiation therapy is used with success in many different capacities: before surgery to shrink the tumor, after surgery to stop the growth of remaining cancer cells, in combination with chemotherapy, surgery, or as a definitive treatment alone.

Patients of the Mt. Carmel Regional Cancer Center have access to the finest radiation therapy equipment available. At the heart of the center is a $1.4 million Linear Accelerator, a treatment device that accurately targets cancerous tumors. Additional improvements totaling $1.5 million will add IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) to the Cancer Center. IMRT ensures that radiation therapy is delivered in the most precise method possible today.

Other treatments include 3-D treatments, prostate brachytherapy seed implant and other radioactive seed implants.

Advanced technology and equipment are only part of our expertise. Treatments are given by our highly-qualified staff of professionals, led by the radiation oncologist. Our team members are committed to providing quality care, and they are dedicated to making each patient feel at ease. Comfortable surroundings and familiar faces are another essential part of the personalized care we insist on at the Mt. Carmel Regional Cancer Center.
